Biography

Benedicta is the second of six children of a teacher of religion, Paola, and a Nigerian international counsellor, Augustine. Her grandfather Julius, a Nigerian, participated in the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne, reaching the finals in the high jump, and was also president of the national athletics federation. From the Torrevecchia district in Rome, she first approached track at the age of sixteen when a teacher at the socio-psycho-pedagogical institute noticed her physical qualities and directed her to the Farnesina field. She won European bronze in the 4x400 in 2016, then set the Italian record with the Italian relay team at the Rio Games. She has a degree in education and training sciences
