Biography

In Rio, he proudly joined his fellow countrymen Paolo Pizzo and Marco Fichera on the podium, along with the Umbrian fencer Santarelli. There could be no better way to show that Sicily is still a land of great fencers. He trained at the Fencing Club of Acireale, his Sicilian hometown, but has now moved to Milan where he is training under the expert guidance of maestro Angelo Mazzoni, a key player in the Olympic fencing team in Atlanta in 1996 and Sydney in 2000. Fencing is an integral part of his everyday life: he is the brother of Daniele, reigning Olympic champion fencer, and companion of the Estonian fencer Erika Kirpu, with whom, together with the Italian Alice Volpi, he organizes camps for future fencing champions. He holds a Bachelor's degree in in Sports Science. However, before he comes to grips with his legacy, he has his sights set on adding more to his fencing achievements. And, given his numerous achievements in various youth categories, particularly winning the silver medal in Brazil, he can surely count on at least a bronze medal.
