Biography

Growing up in Palo del Colle (Bari), Stano approached athletics in 2003 practising middle distance. However, in 2006, he opted for racewalking and immediately demonstrated great skills. In 2013, he came fourth in the 20 km race at the Under-23 European Championships in Tampere, but later received a bronze medal due to the disqualification of Russia’s Bogatyrev. After a series of injuries, in March 2018, he returned to win an Italian title in the 20 km, improving by over a minute, then coming third place in the Team World Cup with silver for the team and fourth place at the European Championships in Berlin: only second away from the podium. He achieved the Italian record in June 2019 with 1:17:45 in La Coruna. He got married in September 2016 to Fatima Lotfi, a former middle distance runner, who has since also switched to racewalking. He has a diploma as a commercial computer programmer.
