Biography

He has been the 1st Italian to break the 10-second barrier. Speed is in the family chromosome: grandfather Giacomo ran the 100 metres in 10.9, father Salvino achieved excellent results as a young man and then as a master, while uncle Giacomo was national in the various categories. Filippo immediately showed his talent by qualifying in the 200 metres for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nachino, where, however, he fell at the finish line in the heat and suffered a double fracture of the radius and ulna in both arms. In 2015, he set the Italian student record for the 100 m and 200 m. In 2016 he set the national junior record in the 100 metres, in 2017 in the 60 indoors and in the 100 metres, his personal best in the 200 metres (4th Italian all-time with 20.34): he won the U20 European title in Grosseto in the 100 metres. In 2018 he became the 2nd Italian in the 100 with 10.03, two-hundredths behind Mennea's record, beaten on 22 June in Madrid in 9.99. At the 2019 World Championships in Doha, he brought Italy back to an Olympic final in the 100 after 32 years, finishing 7th and also helping to improve the national record for the 4x100 (38.11). A graduate of the scientific high school, he is studying business and management at Luiss in Rome.
