Gregorio Paltrinieri amazes again! The Italian won his second medal at Tokyo 2020 and, besides the silver medal in the 800 freestyle, he also won the bronze medal in open water in the 10 km. The Italian swimmer made a comeback on the waters of the Odaiba Marine Park, recovering 30 seconds from his opponents, moving close to the leaders and securing third place on the podium at +27.4 from German Florian Wellbrock, winner of the gold medal in 1:48:33.7. Silver went to Hungary's Kristof Rasovszky (+25.3). The other Italian competing, Mario Sanzullo, was fourteenth.

Italy's cross-country swimming team is also updating its statistics as it celebrates its third all-time Olympic medal today, the first for men, following Martina Grimaldi's bronze in London in 2012 and Rachele Bruni's silver in Rio 2016.
