Amazing Italian quartet wins an incredible gold, improving the world record set yesterday. The 30th Italian medal at Tokyo 2020 comes from track cycling, and it is a special emotion.
The Italian pursuit team, composed of Francesco Lamon, Simone Consonni, Jonathan Milan and Filippo Ganna, and directed by Marco Villa, closed the final with the new record of 3:42:032, ahead of the reigning world champion Denmark (Lasse Norman Hansen, Niklas Larsen, Frederik Madsen, Rasmus Pedersen) silver in 3:42:198. Again, an incredible race, culminating with yet another crazy progression that bears the signature of Filippo Ganna.
The last Olympic medal in this speciality came in Mexico in 1968, thanks to the bronze medal won by Luigi Roncaglia, Lorenzo Bosisio, Cipriano Chemello and Giorgio Morbiato, while the last gold was won in Rome in 1960 by Luigi Arienti, Franco Testa, Mario Vallotto and Marino Vigna.
