Another page of Italian sporting history has been written in Tokyo 2020: at 30 (she will be 31 in November), Vanessa Ferrari has won the silver medal in the women floor gymnastics. The Orzinuovi butterfly achieved a feat that had entered the annals before arriving in Japan, winning qualification for her fourth Olympics (she is the only Italian gymnast to have achieved this goal).

At the Ariake Gymnastics Centre, Ferrari scored 14,200 points, second only to the American Jade Carey (14,366) and ahead of Japan's Mai Murakami and the Russian committee gymnast, Angelina Melnikova, tied for third with 14,166.

This is the first Olympic medal for the Italian, crowning an extraordinary career in which the 'Cannibal' has recovered from numerous injuries (photo Ferraro GMT Sport).

This silver represents the first individual podium for women in the very long history of artistic gymnastics at the Games. Instead, for the Italy team the 28th medal allows equaling the 'booty' won in Rio 2016 when there are still six days to the end of the Japanese event.

An endless and exciting story. Thank you, Vanessa!
