"The first time I was scared. But as soon as I touched the ground I immediately wanted to try again because I had so much fun”. This is the mix of emotions that characterised Laura's beginnings in sport climbing, a discipline that is soon to make its Olympic debut in Tokyo. Climbing since the age of 4 thanks to her father Enrico's passion, she soon fell in love with this discipline that combines strength, coordination and endurance. In order to pursue climbing she moved from Rome to Trento where she also enrolled in the faculty of mathematics, another passion inherited from her father who is a professor at the Sapienza University in Rome. For her, climbing and equations are very similar: whether it’s numbers or a route on the wall, the final objective in both cases is to solve a problem. The first Italian woman to climb cliffs with a 9A difficulty grade, she was the undisputed star of the 2019 Youth World Climbing Championship in Arco where she won the Lead, Bouldering (repeating the success of 2018) and Combined titles. At the 2019 Climbing European Championship she won the silver medal. The twenty-year-old from Rome won a spot in the Olympics after taking part in the qualifying event in Toulouse. She also competed in the 2018 Buenos Aires Youth Olympic Games.
