Biography
He discovered the tennis racket at the Arma di Taggia club, and at 14, just before a tryout with a football club, his second passion, he finally chose tennis. At the youth level, the most important success was the title at the European Under-16 Championships in Vienna in 2003. After quarter-finals at Roland Garros in 2011, his best Slam result, his career turned around in the summer of 2013 with triumphs in Stuttgart - his first at ATP level - and Hamburg. In 2018, he won 3 trophies - the third Italian to do so in the Open Era -, in Sao Paulo and Bastad on clay and then in Los Cabos. In 2019, he became the first Italian ever to win a Masters 1000, imposing himself in Monte Carlo, and the third to enter the first 10 of the ATP ranking, after Panatta and Barazzutti.Football is his other passion: he is a fan of Inter and Genoa. Married to Flavia Pennetta, he is the father of Federico and Farah.
