Biography
For him, Rio 2016 was a kind of rebirth, with a positive message that involved everyone. He had just come back from a difficult year during which he had been diagnosed with a serious illness. But on Copacabana Beach, he transformed those moments of fear and dismay into energy and courage. Daniele, with his lifelong friend and companion Paolo Nicolai, managed to win a historic silver medal for Italy and was also chosen to be the flag bearer during the closing ceremony. Son of a Roman father and a Kazakh mother, as a boy he always played at the seaside in Fregene with his grandpa. Just as back then, for him beach volleyball is a matter of serious competition, but also plenty of fun, and this attitude has led him to play in Tokyo, a city that he feels very attached to in part due to his passion for manga.
