Biography

The son of Leopoldo (ex-basketball player) and Julie Vollertsen, a former volleyball player Silver Medallist with the United States at the 1984 Los Angeles Games, Melli is one of the NBA aces at Sacchetti's disposal. He grew up in the youth ranks of Pallacanestro Reggiana, the team with which he made his Legadue debut in 2007. Three years later, he made his debut in Italy´s Lega Basket Serie A (LBA) basketball league playing for EA7 Emporio Armani Milano, with whom he won the Scudetto in 2014. But this was only the first of several titles won around Europe with the German Brose Bamberg and Turkish Fenerbahce Istanbul. With the Under-20 national team he won a Silver Medal at the European Championship in Bilbao in 2011, with the senior national team he took part in three editions of the EuroBasket (2013, 2015, 2017). Married to Khatarina, Melli´s also the father of little Matilde. He´ll no doubt be getting plenty of cheering from home.
